Suggested Supply List

I want you to have a great experience in the workshop, and one way to do that is to use the art supplies and mediums you feel most comfortable using. Since this class is a bit different from my "step by step" classes, using the mediums you have on hand will give you the freedom to explore and experiment.

With that said, there are a few suggested items that you might want to think about purchasing for the workshop.

If you're interested in working large, buy the drawing paper roll. However, if you're not interested in using the roll, purchase the Strathmore 18X24 pad of drawing paper; the sheets are still large enough to work on and get interesting marks and lines.

Strathmore Drawing Paper (Roll)

Strathmore Drawing Paper (18 x 24) Pad

Wood Panel (optional) - I will use this in Module 2 for the final collage piece. But, you can use anything you have on hand to make the collage.

Watercolor paper or mixed media paper of your choice. There are a lot of exercises that will use watercolor paper, so make sure you have enough. Feel free to use hot or cold press, which ever is your favorite. I feel strongly about getting the best paper you can for the best results.

Journal for notes

Any Sketchbook or Art Journal for experimenting, sketching, painting, and notes. I like to have a small sketchbook that I keep with me at all times and a larger one that I use in my studio.

Speedball ink (small) or if you prefer a larger bottle - Speedball Ink Large Other inks suggestions are Liquitex Acrylic Inks in the color of your choice.

Uncut Matte Board (to make concertina book covers. Note: you can also use cardboard, old books from the thrift shop, cardboard from the back of a sketchpad. Use your imagination, you don't have to use what I use for your books.

YES Paste - My favorite for collaging.

Paint: Use what you feel comfortable using. Since this course is not geared toward a specific medium, you can use anything you want.

Color: When we get to Module 3 we will do a lot of preliminary work on developing your color palettes. Use your favorite colors and during this lesson, if you find you need new colors, you can add them here. If you need help in color mixing, I will do my best to help you find a good mix.

Color Wheel - This is my favorite Color Wheel! I think every artist should have this one in their studio, I use it all the time.

Artist Tape

Vintage Book or Thrift Shop Book - We will deconstruct a book to create our "Book of Colors"

Inspiration Boards: In Module 3 & 5, you will create two separate inspiration boards. You can tape it onto a wall or door in your home. Use a pinboard or a piece of foam core. You can also pick up a small piece of MDF from the hardware store use it as well.

Additional Substrates: When it comes to your final pieces, I encourage you to choose the substrates you love working on. You don't have to have anything specific since this is about you and the work you choose to create.

Often, I will look around my studio and try and use what I have on hand. You can paint over an old canvas, use Wood Panels, or a beautiful piece of watercolor paper. Remember, this course is all about you and the beautiful work you're going to create!
