Dear Art Diary

What is my art diary all about?

It is a space where I can try everything and anything without feeling compelled to "fix" things or even "make art." It is a space where I add leftover paint, copies of my artwork, write, make messy sketches, tear drawings from another sketchbook, tape or staple interesting papers, cards, fabrics, etc.

The book reminds me of the diary I kept as a teenager. Notes, drawings, ticket stubs from the movies or concerts, pressed flowers, and thoughts about a current crush -- who probably had no idea I even existed.

I've been playing in one particular sketchbook for about a year and wanted to share it with you this week. It might be interesting to show you how I keep that current of creativity open by adding, covering, writing, collaging, stapling, and painting in this one book.

The book doesn't leave my studio, and I have it close at hand to capture what I'm feeling while in the moment. I believe there is value in the pages of this book, and everyone would benefit from having a book of beautiful, messy pages to refer to when creating.

Take a look inside…

How do you keep track of all your ideas, and inspiration?

I would love to know.

love,

Renee
