Studio Moments No. 1

Whatever we put our attention on will grow stronger in our life.
— Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

I'm curious about the creative process, how to step into the flow more often, and move through those uncomfortable, disappointing, or frustrating moments of art-making. Over the years, I've built a repertoire of "go-to" techniques that are beautiful and fun. I love using them in my work and have shared the growing list of favorites with my students through art classes. I know there is more to discover, and I’m ready to push forward to see what is waiting for me.

Over the past few months, I've been thinking about how I want my creative life to feel. And it is simple. I want to become a better painter and experience a deeper connection between the creative process and my art—the intoxicating feeling of being entirely consumed by the work.

How do I get to this elusive place?

There is only one way I know how to improve: to paint every day! And be prepared for the distractions that seem to follow artists whenever time has been made to create—learning how to step around them and not allowing them to derail the work. I dedicate this year to painting and sharing the moments through the Studio Moments journal entries. I invite you to see the beautiful messes, works in progress, and anything else that may spark my imagination.

We all need help navigating our journey of creativity, which can have roadblocks, wrong turns, dead ends, and, most importantly, breathtaking moments of pure clarity. So, if you need a creative pick-me-up, stop by and enjoy a few moments in my studio.

Enjoy this week’s snowy day in the studio and a little glimpse of a new class in the making.

I would love to hear your thoughts and anything you want to share about your artwork in the comments below.

love,
